Help indentifying SPS “slime”

What is this slime like substance my PC Rainbow is producing? If you look around the base, it’s a white string like material coming from the polyps. Around the base of the frag plug there is some slime like stringy substance.

Thoughts on what this is? Feeding?

Over the years I have seen this on my acro's ( a strawberry shortcake in particular) every once and a while. I believe it is something to do with a slight variation in the water chemistry of which I could never quite pinpoint. It has always gone away on its own. Once when my dkH dropped one whole point (reactor went offline for a few days unnoticed) I saw it again throughout the tank (all sps tank) although, I never lost anything from any incidence. FYI I performed a 10% w.c to boost the dkH. Everything was fine the next day no more white bundles of tentacles.
Other then a water change I would not recommend anything.

Yes, a water change can cause that since it is altering the water chemistry as well. In my experience it is not a life threatening reaction...might be taking out what it needed from the water column.

I get them when I feed certain things, like selcon soaked pe mysis is a huge one. The more food in the water column the more the filaments come out. I would say it can also be a feeding response, I just dont see why an acro would produce filaments that doesn't protect it from things filling the water column. I would think it would produce slime if something was irritating it. Lots of people think otherwise and say messi filaments are a reaction to food irritating the coral... I would also see them if parameters were off but that's rare .

This is what they are. There are many documented reasons for them, such as stress or starvation, or sometimes a feeding response, and many more. If you find they occur after a specific event such as a feeding or water change it might be normal so long as it clears up after.

I’m by no means a pro at SPS. All I can do is strive for perfection with my water quality.

This hobby brings out the OCD in me.
