I have a 40 gallon tank that I've been running since the beginning of March, and I plan to get fish for it this weekend, I'm looking to get two ocellaris clownfish. My tank has a fluvalaquaclear 70 that I've been running for about 4 weeks because my other filter broke, I moved all the cycled media to the aquaclear with the new media, but ran it for 4 weeks while feeding the tank new life spectrum pellets everyday to be safe. I also have an instant ocean sea clone protein skimmer, not the best plan to upgrade soon, but it works ok for now, and I have about 35 pounds of live rock with two hydor power heads. My readings are 0 for ammonia, pH of 8.4, 0 for nitrite, and 10 nitrate (water change before I get any fish). My coral seems to be thriving, and my snails are doing well, even have baby snails, I just want to be reassured that my tank is good before I get fish for it. Btw I plan to build a sump in a few months, filter seems to work for now, but I'd really prefer a sump.

I'd say your ready too add fish.. your nitrates arnt too high but a small 10% water change won't hurt !!

if you have corals thriving definitely, ocellaris are pretty hardy fish I've had my two 55gal. tanks running for six months with a diy above tank sump and a 30 gallon filter (for media to start my nano tanks ) and all 5 of my ocellaris and my 2 maroon clowns are doin great i started my second 55gal. tank with the 30 gallon filter and a couple pieces of live rock from my first tank with 2 weeks of cycling because my wife wanted these fish now lol and they are doin great.

Awesome! I plan to change about 5 gallons of water before I add any fish, I was just mainly worried about an ammonia spike when adding two new fish, but I've been feeding the tank as if there were fish in there for the past two weeks, so I'm thinking it should be ok!

Thank you! Hopefully cycling for the past 5 months will be enough for 2 clownfish haha.

So there shouldn't be any ammonia spikes when adding two fish at once? That's mainly what I'm worried about.
You sound like your ready to go! Start with the 2 clowns and let the biological filter adapt to the 2 fish. If you go slow you won't have to worry about ammonia levels. Any pls. To QT?

No quarantine tank yet, so I plan to be very picky about where I buy the clowns from, I will probably wind up getting a quarantine tank if I decide to add more than the 2 clowns.

Sweet! You have a build thread ? Or if not a few pics of your setup?;)
It's nothing much, I plan to add more corals and rock to it in a few months.

Thank you!! I wish I could have 150 gallons, but my tank has to be on the second story, and I wouldn't want to wake up one morning with my tank in the kitchen

Sweet tank! We all start somewhere. I love you scape! I started with a 30 gallon went to 150 gallon and my current is a 50 gallon cube which I'm in live with!
If you have any pictures, I'd love to see your tank!
