About an hour after feeding the tank I noticed my bounce mushroom looking like this... My guess is a hermit crab did this. Will it recover? What should I do to help...I really don’t want to lose this coral [emoji27]

Are you sure it didn't simply catch a piece of food and its eating?

A before picture would be helpful. But, it looks like after you fed your tank the mushroom may have captured some food and closed up to digest it.

I’m not sure what you mean, but it looks as tho there is a hole in the mushroom. The “bubble” on the left is poking through this hole...
Ooo ya I see what you mean. It's possible the mushroom had a piece of food and one of your shrimps or crabs wanted it and fought it for it. Mushrooms are pretty resilient. Just keep an eye on it. #reefsquad any thoughts.

should be fine. they can withstand a lot of trauma. Something must have chewed on it.
watch it closely if there is any brown slime forming then you will have to quickly cut it off.

This is exactly my thoughts/hopes right now... I’ll keep watch and see if it gets worse. I’m just praying it recovers

UPDATE: Mushroom has opened up. The bubbles where the damage occurred are deflated, as expected. Overall it is only about 50% it’s normal size when open.

I guess if a chunk of me was taken out I wouldn’t look my best.
Lol. Very true. Bubbles will come bsck. I've popped a few by accident. [emoji21]

It looks like it might be splitting (looks like a hole in first pic?). A few of mine have done this previously.

Is that a cleaner shrimp I see?? If so, id bet my very last dollar that it is more likely the culprit then a crab. I had two, even in a very well fed tank, I would catch picking at my mushrooms, anemones, and my Duncan polyps. They earned their one way ticket out when they tore acans and blasto mouths.

It looks like it' splitting, sometimes it looks very aggressive when they do. Its a bad photo but thats one of my Biohazards splitting. It started at the mouth and ripped a hole in the middle, you can see the rock through it. It took a week to fully split across and you could see mesenterial filaments the whole time. At first I thought the mouth had been ripped out

That is a normal for a bounce if it eats something.
