Hello all, my torch coral who is currently in QT developed a brown spot two days ago. It has now spread up the Fleshy part of the torch. Is this RTN or some sort of Bacterial infection? I’m going to go to the store and pick up some RTN/STN X tomorrow but what can I do in the meantime! There is a pharmacy still open I can pick up some iodine and I have peroxide and Revive. The Torch is otherwise fully extended and looks happy. I am a complete begginer at this and any advice would be appreciated!

I’m sorry maybe I’m blind or too many beverages tonight ;) but your coral looks fully extended I don’t see any issue based on the pictures you’ve provided looks like algae in my opinion

Hello, Torches flesh are white and it looks like that dark purple stuff could be cynobacteria but it is covering your torches skeleton.

Can you blow that stuff of with a pipette?
It actually came with a purple skin when I got it. That was my question too! Did I get an unhealthy torch? It’s the purple skin that’s peeling off

As advised above will the stuff dislodge with a pipette or turkey baster ?

When I got him his Antony base was entirely covered in a purple skin now it’s peeling off. Here’s a picture when I got him

Can you take a picture like this skeleton we can see the rest of it?

Dont mind the circle on my picture.

This is what a healthy torch should look like...and this one's been fragged recently.

The flesh is "flesh" color and is some light it will be white.

OK yes it's algea or cyno bacteria. Blow it off.

Your torch has about 1/4"of flesh you can see in your picture that is white. The rest is skeleton covered by something.

Sounds like cyano to me too it will simply blow or be siphoned off

This area above the red which is white is the flesh on your torch. Everything below it is the skeleton and covered by something. Your torches skeleton is actually greenish under that stuff.

So the purple is not supposed to be there!! I thought it weird I couldn’t find any example of torch corals with purple flesh over the bony base

Yup cynobacteria

You can use a clean toothbrush to remove it. The skeleton won't be hurt by it but don't brush the flesh.

I'd try a pipette with tank water first. It should flush right off
It’s so strange it hugged the coral so tightly!! Thank you!
