It was this stuff and yes you understood correctly about the rock.

Don’t know if it makes a difference, but has more than just bleach as ingredients:

Yeah, no, that's bad. Soap and perfume. Normal plain bleach is just sodium hypochlorite.

Also, "Anti-limescale active molecules"...

You can't remove ALL your liverock at once either, that's the vast majority of your nitrifying bacteria going bye bye. What's your ammonia level at? If it wasn't the bad bleach, it may have been this.

Next time give the rocks a 50/50 peroxide and tank water bath for 10 min then rinse in new tank water and replace. It will kill all the algae without screwing with bleach and the bacteria and even sponges have lived through it when I do dips like that. What doesn't live is algae.

I would do a 100 percent water change and toss that rock in the trash since there was more than just bleach in it.

You might have to scrap your sand bed as well if you have one. I'm not really sure. There's been splashless bleach incidents over the years, perhaps someone with experience can chime in.

I was planning on buying a new tank and equipment this week or next week. Is my rock unsalvagable? I did't have a sand bed.

He ditched near 100% of his established bacteria and replaced it with dry rock that may or may not be tainted with chemicals from a bleach cleaning. Bottled bacteria is great and all, but it's hit or miss in my experience on whether or not it actually works. Neither of these had a very high chance for success. You live and learn, sorry to hear about your fish.

I would get a poly filter and watch what color it changes. Find the solution to fix it online after you see the color. Your tanks is re-cycling and needs time. Be patient with it and it will come back

The soap, perfume - I would throw the rock out and start again. For bleach I only ever use plain unscented non lemon etc. I don’t think I would ever use it for a marine tank
