HELP!! Just dropped a PM2 module into my sump!! Will it still work?

I was mounting an Apex PM2 module onto my RSR 250 cabinet's side right above my sump without covering my sump first. Usually I cover the sump with a blue tarp first. I wasn't thinking tonight. The drill that was drilling behind the hole in the module jumped and the PM2 and screw fell into the full strength artificial seawater. The screw is still in the sump somewhere. I quickly grabbed the module and without wiping it down I took the srews out of the back, took the cover off, and dabbed the printed circuit board. Then I grabbed a hair dryer and began to dry the inside of the little black box.

Has anybody done something so similar and stupid? What came out of it? Any guesses as if it will still work? I'm going to hook it up tomorrow to see if it will work. :fingerscrossed:

If I was you I would put it in a topper ware container and fill it with uncooked rice and put the lid on, the rice will help take away any moisture leave it there until tomorrow. I've done that with a cell phone and it worked doesn't hurt to try.

+1 Put it in a bowl of rice for at least 24 hours, don't try to plug it in anytime sooner.

Well I did put it in a bowl of rice but I'm going to wait for more than a day, I'm going to wait about 3 or 4 days. The PCB doesn't come off the back of the black box so there might be some moisture stuck behind it.

If you can get some isopropyl alcohol you can clean the board off with that. Straight solution using a q-tip to get all the salt off. Then pour some over both sides to flush it down. Use gloves as it is very strong and will strip the oils from your skin. We use to use the stuff in the Marines while fixing circuit cards in small missle systems.

FWIW, you could flush out any salt with Distilled water or Isopropyl alcohol to prevent any corrosion from the residual salt reacting with moisture in the surrounding air. Again, you should give it a few days to dry with a desiccant like silica gel if possible.

After 4 days I removed the module from the rice, put it back together, mounted it inside my cabinet, and connected the temp and salinity probe. The probes seems to be reading accurately compared to other readings of other devices. Looks like it still works!!
