first question, can i get away with any dwarf angel? specifically a coral or rusty? currently just 2 clowns in tank and plan on adding at most 4 fish, 4th will probably be a goby/pistol combo

if coral beauty or rusty angel is not an option

what about an orchid dottyback not to be confused with the mean purple dottyback.

30L=approximately 8 gallons?

If an 8 gallon systems then the bioload max has already been reached with the pair of clowns.

If a 30 gallon tank, the Dotty Back might be ok.

30 long. In style. 30 gallons in volume

Oh ok. :-)

I have kept Dwarf Angels in Nano's and I always regretted it later on down the road. It's my opinion they need a 50 gallon. I did have a Cherub in a 30 for a couple years but he did get aggressive and started nipping corals as well.

What about a Royal Gramma?

I would also recommend avoiding an angel for a 30g.

Yellow assessor, swales basslet, stigmatura blenny, are a few suggestions.

so bought a very healthy looking and tiny (maybe an inch) long cherub dwarf angel, acclimated and put him in the tank. he took cover in a cave and my 2 clowns prevented him from leaving that cave thereafter. i woke up today to see the angel wrapped around my mp10 which was at 20% all night. could the fish have just died over night and floated to the pump? no signs of bites/trauma. only thing i can think of is the fish arrived at the LFS the same day i bought it.

ill check the water parameters when i get home but they are perfect everytime i test

only photo taken in my tank

Could be a number of things, but double stress from the LFS dump, then your tank dump, that's a lot for any fish. How did you acclimate, what was the (if any) PH / salinity change from the LFS to your tank? Did the LFS acclimate them properly from shipping, was there ammonia damage, etc etc.

I would stay away from buying anything that just landed at the LFS. Let them eat the day 1/2 losses, it's already factored into the price you're paying for a fish weather it's healthy or not.

Most likely died from wrong acclimation or likely from stress.
