i have an established 36 tank with about 6 fish including 2 rare clowns that are a bonded pair. I would like to add an anemone to the tank for them but the guy at my store said it will sting my other fish and kill them. Can anyone tell me if this is true or if you think it is safe for me to add one for them. I would like them to have one but not at the risk of my other children lol

When you say an established tank, how long has the tank been up and running? You should be fine to add an anemone as long as the tank is matured (8 months or longer) there is always the chance that your anemone can sting and eat the other fish, but as long as you keep him happy and fed its unlikely.

I also see you just joined today, so Welcome to R2R!!

Thanks for the welcome my tank is 2 years old and everyone gets along great. He told me that adding the anemone would cause it to sting the other reef fish that i have and kill them. Do they often kill fish like adding a little bubble tip would kill my fish??

You should be fine then. There are many mixed reef tanks out there with anemones in them with lots of different fish. Like I said there is always the chance that a fish will get caught and eaten, but for the most part your other fish will try to avoid it :)

When we had our 36 gallon bowfront, we had two BTA's in there with 3 fish without a problem. Not saying it can't happen but it's not likely. The only problem we had was when the one nem decided to take a stroll around the tank it did kill some corals. I think It will be fine to have one in your tank.

My flame angel, CB angel, 6 lines wrasse and blenny can swim right through the BTA without ever getting stun. Most people have accident with haddoni.

I am going to go ahead and try the anenome i want one so bad for my cute little clowns i guess trial and error lol so everyone cross your fingers. Thank you so much for the support and the quick responses you guys are the best.

What do you have for lighting?

Most people just have incidents with carpets, usually haddoni's like mentioned.

BTAs should not be a problem. Other anemones can definitely be a problem depending on type. Carpet and tube anemones are much more aggressive the BTAs.

It is safe. Bubble tips are by far the least aggressive. Ive had tanks for many years now, and I currently have 3 giant anemones. No fish has ever gotten eaten by one. Only worry about them if you have pipefish
