I have a 29 G biocube with a 150W sunpod MH fixture 6 inches above it. I'm looking to upgrade my light, I would like advice as to whether I should keep the MH and just get a LED supplement bar (all I'm looking for is the crazy blue supplement, I love the look and reliability of my MH) but my fixture is so old I'm considering upgrading the whole unit. Are there special fixtures prebuilt with halide and solid LED blue supplementation, or would I have an easier time just DIY adding a supplement bar.
Also, I do not have a way to accurately read my PAR ratings, I tried using the device from my LFS but it is way busted, I'm thinking after adding the LED supplement if I go that route I would probably need to elevate the light higher because of the stories I've heard (and witnessed) of LED burning out corals. I do not have much SPS so I'm not worried about losing stick, mainly LPS and zoas here.
I'm also not opposed to the idea of a T5 w/ LED light fixture, I just dont want to lose my shimmer.
