i just did a water change, cleaned the tank put in a bag of purigen in my sump
( which I'm pretty darn sure I rinse it in prime after renewing it and had it sitting in fresh water for three weeks outside)
I use RODI water use the same brute container use the same hoses etc ( although I had left over saltwater that I had from last week and yes I had a small pump circulating it)
I started the system back up the first thing I noticed was the skimmer going ballistic with foam all over the place and also in my filter sock I turned the skimmer off and then I saw fish laying on the bottom my flame in the rocks in its side , anemones closed up ( although one is back and out)
All I could think of was chlorine
So I dropped prime in the tank about two capfuls) my 45 gallon tank with a trigger systems cube sump ( probably 50 gallons total water)

I added water added safe
Did a ammonia test ( I don't know why) but ammonia was way up there
Between 0.4 and 0.8 on Red Sea tests

Couple chromis look ok the yellow Tang looks ok and a clown looks ok but they are breathing hard

Inverts look fine none are snail are going around crabs are crawling and my two big cleaner shrimp moving around what happened

If the skimmer is going crazy my first guess is something got in there. If somebody sprayed Febreeze or Windex in the room and some got in there it could have caused that. Many cleaners are ammonia based and could contribute to a spike but dead animals also produce ammonia as they decay.

Nope everything was fine I did clean the glass with a fish store bought algae pad that I always use but did the water change and that was it I did notice foam around the purigen bag but didn't think anything of it
I'm not ruling out anything else I just don't know so far one fish is gone

Here is a picture of three

Breathing hard is a O2 depletion
But did I read correctly that you used Prime to the Purigen ???
One day in a 50% bleach/ R/O water bath followed by a R/O day bath is all I do, never used Prime unless I thought my R/O wasn't totally clean of Chlorine.
When the skimmer goes nuts it's usually a big sign something's wrong.
Was the brute container covered? You don't need to circulate that water. The bottled water at your LPS isn't circulating.
Could be the spray you used to clean, or the pad. I use Dobie pads, they clean very well, and the only spray I use is Vinegar/R/O. 50/50. It's great for everything, especially when cleaning power heads into a bucket or any other things like your Skimmer, hoses, nets, whatever. I clean my powerheads every 2 months or so in a bucket, and even the Coraline comes off, and never hurts the plastic

How did you recharge the purigen?
A quart Fresh water with about 1/4 cup bleach for 24 hours then another quart of water with three bottles caps of prime for 24 hours then rinse and have been letting it sit in fresh water for the last three weeks
Changed water twice during that time

No pads had anything on them that I know water was covered and was only about 2 gals
I added another 12 or so last night let it heat up and added salt that s morning

When I clean my pumps and skimmer it's gpfresh water I clean the skimmer ( body ) once a month

Based on the time with which these fish and inverts showed symptoms and then death I would expect a contaminate. Charcoal and water changes an additional O2 supply should help.
Was the container in which you recharged the Purigen exposed to the elements?

By sitting outside, do you mean in your yard? Could this have then been exposed to anything harmful?

If I make rodi water add my salt should there be any ammonia or chlorine in it
I know what is should be which is no

No - as long as your RODI unit is pulling all of the chlorine out. Does your city use Chloramine to purify your water? Does your RODI unit pull out Chloramine completely? Some RODI filters have issues with Chloramine.

Yes out on my 2nd Fl balcony in the closet to our door corner

Yes I have a BRS. Six stage RO/DI and we have a well
I decided to check the water and did a ammonia test water showed up very light not quite clear maybe 0.2

I would assume you got your contaminate from your bag of Purigen sitting outside. I would keep that process inside from now on.

If you are showing some amonia in your RODI water, it sounds like it's time to change out filter media. Having a well, I assume you don't Chlorine/Chloramine in the water anyway?

I just posted two pics of my water tests straight out of RO/DI and adding salt ( Red Sea)I just changed out my carbon blocks and DI resin a month ago
