I’ve had this guy for 3-4 years and he’s been a model citizen. Came to the tank this PM and his belly is huge and bloated to the point that his scales won’t lay flat and he’s gasping. Any thoughts?

Oh, sorry to see. The bloating isn’t really clear in the video, but it is likely ascites, fluid build up from kidney or liver failure. The rapid breathing means that the problem is systemic, involving the entire fish. I presume the fish isn’t eating?

Just like in humans, this sort of organ failure can’t really be treated by medications.

Man that sucks. I really appreciate your insight. Sounds like not much to do in terms of treatment. He’s still fairly mobile so getting him out would be a chore and stressful for both of us.
It seems like it’s ok to let him be peacefully in the tank for now?

I was hoping constipation but I assume not eating and if not a sure sign of deteriorating, sad to say
