so I need a new return pump my quite one 4000 is having trouble restarting after water changes/ power outages. so it gotta go.

tank info:
90 gal tank 36x24x24
40br sump
2' of 1.25" flex PVC
2' of 1" pvc ( need to check this one might be 1.25")
1 gate valve fully opened
1 45 elbow
1 Tee to 2 outlets in to tank
in tank water movement my 2 jebao PP8

so with a goal of around 5X turn over that would be 450GPH - head loss.
does R2R have a head loss calculator?

do we think getting a bigger pump then dialing it down to say 50% or run a smaller pump @ 80-90% is better.

these are the pumps on the list:
Eheim compact 2000 528 GPH
or 3000 792GPH

sicce 2.0 568 GPH
or 3.0 714 GPH ( as I type this I thought i read that the 3.0 where crap??)

Jebao 6500 DCP pump

thoughts and feedback welcome.

the more I think about it, seams better to go with the more powerful pumps in the 700 GHP range. don't you think?
tank is gorgs. LPS and softies. maybe add a few SPS at some point. so dont need crazy turn over rate.
let my power heads do that.

I'm currently running the Eheim Compact 3000 and it works well in my 40 breeder. However, I did run into an issue with it restarting. There ended up being a bit of calcification on the magnetic rotor. Once scraped off, I don't have a problem with it. Maybe the same has happened to yours?

As for recommending another pump, I'd go with DC if you're unsure as to what flow rate you want. It would allow you to fine tune the flow for your corals. I've heard great things about the RO Varios pumps, but haven't used one myself. When I upgrade, I'll likely be going with an Ecotech Vectra M1.

yeah I like the the idea of DC pumps with there control-ability and feed mode. the only one in my price point in the jebao DCP with I am thinking about.

I do/did take out the magnetic rotor seams clean. will be leaving for 3 weeks in feb. just want to make sure pump is not an issue.

the sicce pumps are notably very quiet. Even though they are AC, they are variable flow by adjusting the inlet. Priced well and reputable.

I love my Waveline DC 6000 return pump, 1535 GPH. Little bigger than I needed but it's extremely quiet and you can change the speeds to match your specific needs. I run mine at around 60% and it's perfect. They also make an Apex controllable version as well.

Ehiems to me were always loud and hated the heat they put off, but that's just my opinion.
