Two days ago I get home and my tank looks like an Arizona haboob, sand everywhere. I look at the sump socks and they are overflowing (they get clean/replaced weekly). So I put clean ones. I look at the wp40s and they are in place. all the zoas frags are closed, and the anemone is MAD!!!! The one clown (Cathelyn) is hosting with some mushrooms in a corner while the other one (Bruce) is in a corner. I found out the diamond goby (Neal) is working like he is on crack. Yesterday same story. Now couple of fish are dead. Checked ammonia and it's ok. I turned the one of the wp40 off for the day.

Now done with the drama, opinions!!!
If this continues: should I get rid of the goby? or get an HOB filter? (To collect the sand). I'm running a 50 gallon sump. Will this HOB affect the parameters like ammonia
Any opinions suggestions welcome...

I guess I am unclear what you are asking. How old is the tank? Have you measured parameters? Unless you have w really old deep sandbed a goby just moving sand around shouldn't kill anything. If you arr having a sandstorm, you can adjust where the pumps are aimed.
Some filter socks should clear the tank in a day or so.

Not sure abt the deaths except that sand beds are usually where a lot of nasty stuff resides. If it’s been dug up, that can be your problem. I would suggest that your problem was your clown. Mine gets low to the bottom and slashes his tail back and forth.... digs a hole and sends sand everywhere. The Goby will move sand around but not send it flying around the tank. My sand bed has a permanent hole on the left side where the clowns live.

Thats why a replaced the socks thinking they were full. They get replaced every Saturday. The sand bed is about 3 inches and I did check the pumps and they are aimed the right way. I figured one came off and was pointing down. The tank is 6 months but I just added the goby like a week ago. Never had a goby

I used to have a horseshoe crab on my old tabor and same thing will happen so I had to go to a coarse sand on Saturday everything was fine (same Saturday routine) and all parameters were ok . Yesterday I only check the ammonia and it was fine. i figure too much sand got to the fish. By looking at the sand you can tell it was disturbed big time.

Once all the very fine sand is up and out the goby will be sifting through the heavier stuff and it will just fall back to the ground. My tank did this when first adding the goby. Its just getting the fine stuff up and out. Doing his job. It will dissipate.
