Help me decide which torch!

[150 Gallon Reef]

I have a chance to purchase one of these 3. One is a no named HG type, one is a TSA lookalike, and the last is a ASD lookalike. 750 per head. Do you think they are reasonably priced and which looks best?

First pic is no named on right and tsa lookalike on right.
Second pic is white lights of no named in middle and tsa top right.
3rd pic is ASD lookalike.

I'd take all 3! All look beautiful do you have any others close to the same colors? If so get something different.

$750 is pretty high. Most are not that expensive even online.

I only have a dragon soul, bright indo gold, and an orange gold indo

Wholy Grail was going for 1000 plus per head last year.

Sorry, but none of those look like a Holy Grail torch.

If you look closely at the tentacles of a Wholy Grail, you will see Yellow Stripes on the green tentacles.

I like the $50 no-name varieties myself.


I have two different types, no idea what they are. One was $20/head the other was $90 and it had about 5 heads when I got it. Probably 20 heads now. I run my lights on programs, otherwise I’m sure I could crank up the blues and take some crazy looking pictures with those filter things.

It may be a HG, I am not the ultimate torch expert. The question is do you like it and do you feel its worth it. I have no problem paying high dollar for frags, but when the dollar amount go's up, I want proof of lineage of the frag. Meaning that I want to know where the frag was originally purchased with proof of purchase. JMTC

I have owned 2 different heads of what we are calling Wholy Grail. Honestly they are gorgeous and colors really pop on them. I have a few different torches in my display and coral grow out tank. The Dragon Souls and and Indo Golds are all very nice. The WG stands out....

I currently have a 12 head TSA Black Panther torch, aka NY Knicks, and I feel its probably the coolest torch around, BUT, I do plan on adding a HG Torch on my upgrade as they are equally cool.

I constantly look at my TSA Black Panther and I am surprised that it is at 12 heads. Question and an observation, do the Indo torch's need more heads to look fuller vs. other torch's? When I mean full I mean a big mass of tentacles flowing all over the place. At 12 heads it looks like a mass of tentacles just flowing, but when I look at the heads when it retracts in the early night they don't seem as big as some other head bases of other torch's from other regions that I have.

It depends how the skeletons form I suppose. Sometimes the heads are so close together, it's very hard to get a clean cut. If you cut flesh, forget it. It takes forever for them to heal up and recover. When I cut my torches, I will only cut if the heads are clearly separated.

More to your point, the more heads they do look fuller and better. Tentacle length and fullness more depends on the health of the torch and age. In my experience, the more you leave them alone, they get better and better. If you constantly move them around, or frag them the kinda reset themselves and shrink in and not extend. I would say if you have a new torch, give it 3-4 weeks if not longer to see it's full potential.
