I had my mind set on yellow tang but since i also planned on adding a foxface and I want a mixture of colors, i didn't want to add two big yellow fish.
So my options are purple tang instead of yellow or magnificent foxface instead of regular

Opinions?
Are purples more aggressive or any different in any way then yellows?

Here is the full list of planned inhabitants
2 clowns
Goby/pistol shrimp pair (not sure what kind of goby yet)
Diamond goby
Royal gramma
Midas blenny
Group of dispar anthias
Flame angel
Foxface
Blue throat trigger
Yellow or purple tang
Kole tang
Powder blue tang

Yellow tangs are too plain IMO, purple is the way to go! ;)

Purple's and Yellow's have very similar behaviors and both can be aggressive, I would add whichever one you choose to go with towards the end.

But i could get a magnificent foxface instead of the yellow one and not have so much yellow.. lol

Still too much yellow haha

I just loved the bright yellow color of the yellow tang lol. That has always been one of my must have fish but then i started rethinking because i wanted a mixture of colors and now I can't decide

I have the mag foxface and love him. subtle color with the streaks of yellow and orange but not to much. I have had a purple tang before in a lightly stocked 220 and he was aggressive but one fish cant speak for them all.

Get what you really want, I'm just messing around haha

Any of the fish in question are really beautiful and do pretty well in a reef aquarium :)

I think generally the purple is a tad more aggressive than the yellow - though individual temperaments do vary.

My local fish store had 2 purple tangs. One juvi that was beautiful and a larger one that was a little more dull and darker colored. Do they get real dark purple as they age? It seemed to have lost some of the stripiness that the younger one had.
Anyone have pics of they larger purple tangs?

I personally love the purple tang. It swims freely and elegantly, it constantly eats algae but that fish is mean as heck, it bullies my Harlequin Tusk and it was the last fish I put in the tank!

PURPLE!!! (btw, I added a poll to the thread for you :D)
Thanks :) although I can't see the pole from the tapatalk app on my phone lol

Does anyone else have experience with the purple being aggressive? It will be going in with a powder blue

Yeah, but have you checked out the mobile version of the site? Log in from your phone's web browser (you might never use TT again Haha)

My purple was a model citizen. I'd be more worried about the PBT than the purple.

So does the purple tend to darken up to the point where it loses that pretty purple color that it has as a juvi?
