Hi guys, so my wife won a raffle for a free runing with coral biocube that was delivered today [emoji4]

Now the tank that we already have is about 65 or 70g with probably 20g sump, it's been running at our home for about 2years. We are trying to keep it as basic as possible because we are planning on buying a red sea tank in the future so investing on equipment wouldn't really make sense.

So filtration is as basic as it gets, water from the over flow passes trough a filter sock that has one bag full of carbon and another full of gfo. Then it goes through the refugium with some macro algae and then to the last chamber that has the skimmer and the return pump.

Now we are trying to decided whether we should keep this systems separate or to connect them some how together.

We are not using this nice biocube as quarantine bc one we are not planning on getting any fish or coral anytime soon, plus we can get a cheap tank to use for that purpose.

Frag tank is also another option, but if we really wanna grow coral I think we will need to upgrade the light right?

We really wanna use it to propagate pods to have a reliable source of food for our little mandaring that has not stopped eating since it's been in the tank.

So what you guys think, is it a good idea to run both tanks as one? What would you guys do? I mean two tanks means two water, two tanks to test parameters for, two tanks to dose ( I dose manually with fresh water to compensate for evaporation morning and night)

I'm attaching pics, if anyone as a good idea on how to connect both systems please share.

Thank you!!!!

I wouldn’t plumb them.

You could do like Dr Sanjay did in one of his tanks. Just go softies and higher nutrient corals and skip doing water changes. (He does almost none).

Softies and macros.

Not a bad, thank you. I'll look his name up to have a better idea.

Connect it with main system, grow macro algae and keep some predator fish, if you want. Or some low flow fish like pipefish. Or Just macro algae, for pods. BioCubes are very pretty, but you cant grow most corals with stock lighting, you need something better there. If you connect it to the main tank, you wont have to mod the filtration, otherwise even that needs some love

Yeah that's what I been reading about this little tanks, they are a beauty tho!!
Those stock lights should be enough to keep some nice softies right? Or maybe an anemone? What you guys Think?

I belive at one pint the led versions came in two models. A higher light and lower Light.

I guess the leds aren’t as bad as most folks make them out to be.

Yeah I guess the newer models have better lightning than the old ones, I'm trying to find out what model I have lol
