I will be picking up the following tank Monday evening.....48x24x12...60g

What would you do with this tank....clam tank, clownfish anemone tank....what?

I want something different......also how would you go about scaping it?

lighting will be a 4 bulb T5 unit....just looking for something unique.

2 rock towers with mixed BTAs and Picasso clowns or Latz. In the sand I would put clams. If no sand, cover the BB with neon gsp. Just my .02

It's only 12" tall? That'll make for an excellent look-down style tank. I'd definitely go for a full-on clam garden.

I'm with Jaytizzle, another option would be a chalise clam mix tank with rics as the "substrate" (see Copps tanks) all look the best from top down.

Ricordia or clams would look very nice across the floor of that tank. Personally, I'd go for a theme tank. If I was gonna do a ricordia substrate, I'd go with florida ricordia and do a atlantic reef type set-up with rics, flower nems, gorgonians, etc. I'd looks at actual photos of the shallow reefs in the florida area to get insperation on the scaping.

All excellent comments guys....please keep them coming.....I like the FL theme idea....I was thinking of doing an anemone tank with different types of Nems for my ORA naked clowns.

My wife likes the clam tank idea.....which ones should I go for it it is what I choose to do.

Do I even have to say it?

Maxima's and Crocea's all the way!!! I like the idea of adding some Chalice and Ric's too, that would be sweet!

Do a little of everything! You should really strive to have at least one of each of the readily available species...

Ok skinz you and the wife have me convinced.....I will do a clam and LPS tank.....lol

I will start the thread Mon or Tues after I get the tank broke down and moved to my house......do you think a 4 bulb T% will be enough light? the fixture is running all ATI bulbs but not sure which ones till I pick it up.

Mike

I'm thinking you will love it!

I would think that 4 bulbs would be enough in a tank that shallow. Just put the clams under the lights and the lower light demanding corals on the outskirts.

I always liked the idea of the aquascape coming out of the water and having those landcrabs. Couple people have done it and it looks awesome.

I have 2 sets of halides 2 x 175w and 2 250w if I need them....just have to get some reflectors for the 250's......the 175's are a fixtur but I would have to come up with something that looked nice since I would have to hang the fixture from the ceiling.......wife is tired of my ghetto rigging....lol

Who has the best prices and selection of clams online....we do not have a LFS that is worth a crap for anything.

Yeah I remember the Volcano tank or something like that....I thought it looked really good.....I may give that a try....I have some 3/8" inch acrylic rod to creat a scape that would come out of the water.....Thanks for the suggestion

Mike

Ha ha I'm in the same boat, I have no LFS!

Right now both Cherry Corals and Reefkoi have some really nice clams in stock. Live Aquaria is always a good one to check out too.
