Background: I currently have a 150 gallon (72x18x30) tank that I plan to use to house non-reef safe fishes such as puffers, angelfish, and triggerfish. I plan to keep some softies and LPS in the tank as long as I can. I have a 40 gallon mixed reef upstairs where I keep most of my corals so if some of the non-reef safe fish get into the corals in the 150 it won't be devastating.

The tank: The tank came to me from a freshwater aquarist that drilled one hole in the side for a 1.5-inch bulkhead. I'm currently working on the plumbing for the tank so I'd like some advice on where I should put the overflow and powerheads. The existing hole is 5.5 inches from the back and 5.5 inches from the top on the left side. I plan to use this for the return to the tank with 1.5-inch plumbing coming from the back (which will be painted) around the corner horizontally to the bulkhead keeping the plumbing close to the glass. The plan is for the return to split after the bulkhead inside the tank to two RFGs.

My question: I'd like to use the 16" Ghost overflow and my original plan was to put this on the right side opposite the return with a gyre pump below it and an MP40 somewhere on the back. I've since thought that I would put the overflow in the middle on the back of the tank, put the gyre on the right side near the top and then put an MP40 somewhere. There's just so many different configurations! I don't have the powerheads yet but I would ideally like to use an MP40 and Maxspect gyre. I'm open to other powerhead options that are in the budget of an MP40 and gyre. I'd like to know what your thoughts are on this somewhat blank canvas knowing that the return will come out on the left side.

So what do you think?!

To add, I expect to move the powerheads around once the tank is wet and the aquascape is settled on so this is more for where I should drill for the overflow. As for the rock, plan to have two tall islands in either side with something shorter in the middle. One of the tall islands will be a little taller than the other.
