AA58A081-A7FB-4E9C-ABCC-6817579C4D51.jpeg Pulled Midas Blenny out of 3rd day in CP qt.

In 75 gal qt with 10 long term tank mates. CP was ramped up to 40mg/gal over 3 days. All other fish acting normal.

Midas was in good condition prior, treating all my fish for ich that occasionally appear on 2 of the long term fish.
Going fallow in dt.

Midas was laying on bottom this morning (not seen swim yesterday), not seen eat in 3 days. I picked it easily up by hand, thought it was dead. I put it in bowl and started dripping in NSW, same salinity. It revived, but is not well.

Midas was acclimated to new 8gal qt. Its tail looks damaged, part of it swollen, white pimple looking spot on tail, fish stays up right, I’ve seen it slither across bottom of 8 gal, not seen it swim in water column.

Kanaplex?
Metroplex? D126AC2E-1B7C-4768-9436-78232F869E9C.jpeg C04757C5-F02F-4DCF-BAF6-0E8BD8DE65CC.jpeg

Looks like a bacterial infection. Could be both internal and external, so I'd dose both Kanaplex and Metro in the QT asap.

I’m thinking erythromycin for the swelling and slight red streaks on tail.

Qt Tank is 8gal but 1 packet erythromycin is for 10 gal?

Thanks BigG, I don’t want to lose this guy!

You think metro and kana is better then erythro?
I have all on hand.

Eroded epithelium including fins and small ulceration in an anorexic fish exposed to copper. I agree, looks like a secondary bacterial infection to primary nervous system insult.

You want to cover gram positive and negative- kana= aminoglycoside gram negative, Metro is generally parasites (protozoans) and anaerobes, Erythromycin is broader with some activity on + and - as well as atypical. You do not know what you are treating so you cover it all.

I would get it out of the copper and treat with kana and erythro. Removing copper will hopefully restart the nervous system. Those two should cover most bacteria but not fungal (fungal is less likely with rapid onset). Metro could help but I doubt it would add much.

Hopefully someone with more fish experience will give you a better answer soon.

Not a big fan of Erythromycin in the saltwater tank. It works primarily on gram positive bacterial infections which are less prevalent in saltwater tanks. It can have a rather negative effect on the bio condition of the tank. So you end up having to heavily aerate the tank and deal with the ammonia spikes. Prefer to use it at double dose in a bath for eye infections where it works really well.

Kanaplex as a wide spectrum antibiotic will treat a large variety of both gram negative and positive infections. Adding metro treats both possible internal parasites and anerobic bacteria that may be at work on the internals of the fish.

You can also consider adding Furan2 to the mix (aka The Trifecta) to cover an even wider area for your sick fish.

Best of luck.

image.jpg Thank you very much Nathan and BigG for your quick replies.

(This fish was in CP, all other fish normal behavior.)

I dosed Metro and Kana. Will follow directions on containers.
Bubbler going.

Anything else I can do?

I guess time will tell if this was caught in time.
