I have a 20 gallon saltwater tank that has suffered many casualties in the last week - three of the five inhabitants have died.

The remaining clown fish has white all over it. Not as much spots - but more like fuzz. The eyes are clouded over.

Setting up a QT tank, and going to buy medication but trying to figure out what it is first. any guidance on Diagnosis and proper treatment?

If I’m setting up a QT tank, how can I skip waiting for a cycle? I can use water from an existing tank, and take a sponge filter out of it — will that be enough for a 10 gallon QT to use it immediately?

Definitely no expert but that is exactly what I did. Successfully. But let’s see what others might have to say.

Brooklynella, which wild clownfish are particularly susceptible to. Not a good prognosis, sorry

Thank you. Why is it killing the rest of the fish without the same physical presentation?

I’d get @jayhemdal advice on matter, could be other problems going on in the tank as well, or perhaps velvet (though velvet usually looks more like powdered dots)

That looks like end stage marine ich (Cryptocaryon). Here is the thing though - once you've begun losing fish to this disease, it is already very far advanced. Ich treatments take a few days to start to work, but the remaining fish may not have that much time left.

Are there any fish in the tank NOT showing symptoms?
Are the fish breathing fast?

Your only real option is going to set up a quarantine tank and dose with a full dose of copper in it right away. then, you'll need to manage the ammonia level through water changes and adding beneficial bacteria,. like Dr. Tim's. It won't be an easy thing to do though!

Hi Jay -
Two of the three remaining fish show no symptoms - a Hawkfish and a Bicolor Angel. The maroon clownfish looks pretty bad but is acting fairly normal.

I’m working on the quarantine tank as we speak. Just left Petco with some supplies. You’d recommend all three in the tank with an immediate full dose of copper?

If the maroon isn't breathing hard, you can rule out Velvet.

Going back some - you said you've had many casualties in the past week? What fish have died?

A small Mandarin, a yellow-headed Goby, and a Valentini Puffer. All had been healthy in the tank for more than a year. Nothing new added. All tests (Nitrates, Ammonia) were in range.

I know it's a moot point but I didnt see it pointed out anywhere that that's a clarkii clownfish not a maroon.
