I’m only making this refugium for copepods because I want a dragon mandarin.

Tank is 300 gallons. I have a sump, but there is no space in there, so I need something HOB. I have this filter and it fits perfectly.

Question, I’m going to the LFS tonight, I was planning on simply buying some algae and putting it inside the filter, then seeding it at night with copepods. Is that really all it takes or am I missing something?

Also, what type of algae do I ask for?

With HOB, it’s really going to be convenient for me, because it will use the same lights as the main display.

No light needed if you use shower scrunchies. I'd try first fitting these in your current sump before adding this small HOB filter. These work great at pod hotels.

If you can squeeze a small bag of bio balls in your sump somewhere your pods will love it and you’ll also gain a little bio filtration.

If I don’t need light, I might just do that!
Do I need to shake it out every once in a while, or can I just leave it there?
