Help me figure out this sump lol

Got used sump I cant figure it out is it just poor design when at operating lvl all baffles are underwater can anyone offer advise I can include a picture of where he said return and drian should be doesn't make sense to me

It's hard to make out where the baffles are from a top down view. But if they are underwater, there's probably too much water in the sump. It may have been designed to operate at the height of a specific skimmer, maybe 7 inches of water.

Usually the way the incoming drain baffle is, there's an opening at the bottom of that chamber.

The return side will either have 2 baffles close together to eliminate bubbles, or the water will just pour over a baffle into the return section.

if i’m looking at it correctly, those short baffles are ok to be underwater. they’re just there to keep different fuge stuffs apart from each other. the main chambers are drain/skimmer, fuge then return.

You can kind of see these holes in the black part that connect the 2 sections on the back these are 10 inches and 10.5inches high so the water must be that high or I'm thinking of blocking the hole on the left side and make that chamber like a freshwater holding area and put return in small section in the front
