I have some experience in fish tanks but have not had one in 15 years. My experience was with lots of smaller tanks and finally a 120 cichlid which I transitioned into a swim only reef for a few years. I’ve spent the last couple months doing my research and feel like I'm catching up. I plan to buy a Red Sea Reefer xxl 750 this time next year. My first question is obviously I don't want to wait that long before getting a tank. My plan is to start with the Red Sea Max Nano now. The problem is, we will be replacing the carpet in the house in 6 months. I'm not sure if it’s possible to move a smaller tank once it is set up? Would I be able to pull out half the water and move it to the kitchen for a day like a large volume water change? Once I upgrade can the Nano be used as a working quarantine tank? Meaning some corals and a clown fish that wouldn’t be the end of the world if the tank crashed? I do not have a way to keep a quarantine tank somewhere else. Any info would help and I’m new so go easy on me if these are stupid questions

As far as moving a tank goes, It can be done in the same day but you have to plan it just right. 5 Gallon buckets and aerators/heaters. Just leave enough water to keep the sand wet. Put all the rock in 5 gallon buckets along with fish and coral. Keep the buckets oxygenated and heated. Transfer.

Old tank water goes in buckets as well. You can mix in fresh saltwater if you wish.

So really if I'm going to go through it all it may not be any harder to do it with a 40 gal vs 20 gallon tank?
