Personally because you are not showing I would use gfo sparingly. But , it might take the Junk out of there.
The purigens are just a combo I belive.

Oh and in a bag in a high flow area or right in the return pump.

So you think the purigen would be better than using just gfo since it already has gfo in it? Or should I just run primarily gfo?

I think you need the carbon for sure.
The gfo is an If or maybe.
Or purigen stuff has both.

Maybe you should adjust the height of the light and amount of time it on. The intense of light could be one of the factor

Okay so I tested my water coming out of the rodi unit and it is reading 39 ppm which is good, right?

It should be zero. Hmmm.
Double check that by running it into a cup rinsed in the rodi. Maybe you've one that. It may rule out the rodi and point to the containers being dirty. That happens.

Huh. So I did what you said with the cup and sure enough it was 0 ppm. So I guess that leaves me with my buckets are dirty. But could that cause that much algae?

Maybe not all, but it may be a source of food depending on what is in it.

Might be gross to think of but household dust is a lot of human skin. If that breaks down. It's nitrates and phosphates. Plus possible ammonia as it rots (Organics )
. But If it's mineral build up maybe not.

Keep in mind it's not a cause just a food source for what's in there.

Okay I'm going clean them out and that should bring the water to 0 ppm in the bucket. I'm going to add the chemipure today after a water change and then I guess it's just a waiting game to see if it helps.

Yep. Pretty much. Once you get the buckets back in shape , water changes.

So I've had this chemipure in the sump for about a week now and the cyano seems to still be growing at about the same rate as before.

I have it in the last chamber of my sump where the water flows over the baffle into the return. Does it need more flow than that?

Its best if you can get it flow through it. kind of like a reactor.

Kind of limited for space in my sump so my only other option is putting it under where the water drains into the sump. Will that work better?

Or, if it's easy, lay the sock on or close to the the return pump.
