Hm....don't think there's a lot different between those cones.

How is the BM being inconsistent? (Overflowing? Not skimming? Etc.)

Do you have it in a chamber where the water level changes some through the day?

I may have more feedback given more info (a new skimmer may not be totally necessary), but until then...

It's a little big for the tank, but I'd look at the Tunze 9410. Very stable and some unique features that help with that. Very quiet, easy to clean, economical to run and not too expensive to buy.

It even has an optional mesh bag that can be run on the outlet to slow down bubbles or run carbon or GFO. (I tend not to use it...don't have those problems.)

Its footprint is only 9" x 7" without the post-filter, but I suspect it would fit your space even with the bag and support ring (which easily lifts off the drain pipe).

It's only 16" tall, so it's very easy to get the cup on and off. It works in water from 5.5" to 9.5" deep.

The B M is inconsistent imo because i constantly have to adjust it every time I clean the cup. Its super annoying. I could never get consistent gunk.
Also no the chamber were it sits does not fluctuate in water level. I have been using it for 2 yrs , even replaced the stock pump to the sicce and still sucks imo. Maybe some people have had better luck with it, not me

Check out the Aquamaxx cone CO-1 foot print I think is around 6.5" X 9", 20" tall requires about 9" water line. I ran one on my 75G with no problems.

Hm. The only thing I can offer is that you may have been over-tweaking. It seems like a longshot, but it can seem to cause inconsistent performance. Some skimmers are also definitely more sensitive than others, but good advice for making tuning a skimmer's setup goes like this:
  • Make no more than one change per day.
  • Try to make changes at the same time of day.
  • Changes should always be based on the skimmate produced.
  • Changes should never be based on the skimmer's current performance.
Using this process, getting fine-tuned mostly never takes me more than a week even on the "worst" skimmers, but it can seem a little tedious.

Since you still have the skimmer you could always try this.

Tunze
But if you're done, sometimes you're just done. I get that. :) If that's the case I'd try the 9410 I mentioned.

AquaC
AquaC is my other favorite make of skimmer (made in usa). An Urchin Pro would be a great space-saver option. It's also one of the most flexible skimmers out there in terms of allowing you to use any off-the-shelf pump you want as well as upgradability.

I think with the space you have, you could actually fit their EV-120 and the pump to run it without too much issue. It's comparable (or a bit more capable) to the Urchin Pro in performance, but it's a good 4" shorter, has better air control, etc.

Oh wow thank for the info.
Im leaning towards the aquamaxx q series or the ssa es5 .idk which one

I just got a Deltec sc1350 and I love it. It is very quiet and works great so far. I got it from Adam at Battle corals. It was a little more than 400, but I say it is well worth it.

And what is the difference with 1351? :)

The 1351 has a dc pump. It is made by jebao so I opted for the 1350 that has a standard pump not made by jebao.

I've had the aqua c evs and they can't even compare to a aqua max. Still have a 120 in the garage lol.
