Picked up this guy from the LFS, they didnt know what it was, but advertised it as an algae eater, which it has been doing a good job of. Also eats nori and meaty food, peaceful temperament.

Orange/yellow color at the tip of the fin as you can see also.

Oh that is just too funny. Black mollies can be acclimated to sw, though not particularly long lived there. Hope you didn’t pay much for it.

I find it a little unusual that 1: the lfs didn't know what a molly was (apparently they've NEVER done anything with freshwater, which is hard enough to believe by itself), and 2: that they could say with any authority that a fish that is unknown to them is an algae eater. Avoid that establishment at all cost.

Note: no one here is bashing you. Your a hobbiest your not suppose to know everything about everything in the hobby or it wouldn't be any fun! I think we all find it disturbing that an lfs which is suppose to guide people did not know what a molly is.

Unfortunately I have had some bad experience with the lfs that I was going to. I've caught the owner in some bs lies and not really knowing what hes talking about.

I spent $4 plus tax, along with some other things purchased there that trip. I had already made the decision to NEVER go back to said lfs due to issues with the most recent purchases and some other previous problems with livestock quality.

Thank you guys for the quick responses!

I was going to ask which LFS near Fairfield ... but then figure it’s probably Idaho not CT. Lol

Why do I find this so hilarious? Haha

Not laughing at you OP, I just simply can’t believe 1. They “didn’t know” what a molly is and 2. Somehow knew it was an algae eater and 3. They charged about 4-5 dollars for a molly! Those things here in PA are 2 dollars each!

Again, not bashing you OP; not your fault you didn’t know, they should’ve...

Yeah its Fairfield Idaho, only about 500 people live here. I was driving to twin falls which is about an hour and a half away.
Only one of two LFS, and the other option is even worse, no corals and very few fish, mainly freshwater and rodents.

Havent checked out Boise yet, as that is 2 hours away plus a dangerous drive in the winter.

The lfs that I was going to is "Epic Corals". They were very fair priced when I started going there, even threw in free frags or fish when you spent a chunk of money. Now the brown zoa frags start at $40 [emoji19] just to give you an idea.

+2 on black molly. Decades ago, they were the known starter fish for a marine tank as they Do survive in saltwater and they are known algae eaters in the marine tank

I just had to answer what fish is this....it is a black molly. I know a lot of you ahead of me identified this before me but this is the first time I knew the answer immediately. They are live bearers and easy to breed.
