Please great people of R2R, help me in under the differences in the various RODI stages?
What makes one better than the other?
Should I be looking for something in my tap water that would yell me what stage I would need.?

I am new to the hobby, don't even have a tank yet. But I am trying to get prepared. I would love to hear from all you experts!!

Hopefully flattery will get me lots if comments!

Cities can change what they put into the water quite often.

If you know nothing about your city water, then I would get a 7 stage RODI unit.

This will cover whatever your city puts in its water or whatever is already in it.

You can always add more "stages" or more RO or DI units if you ever need too.

Also depends on your goals as a tank. A fish only tank won't need the same filtration a hard coral tank will.

If you have a frig with drinking water filter on it, I would send this sample in an API test kit to get checked. Its easy to over spend on RO/DI units. I run a sediment house filter then a 4 stage RO/DI

My goal is yo have a reef tank, fish and coral. I was thinking about going 5 stage but I guess i would need to test my water.

Depends on what RO/DI you have, you can go here Bulk Reef Supply, scroll down to were it says "show more" in the black box. They describe what each filter does
Thanks for the tip, I will check that out. I dint think I saw that when I was looking there

Your water supplier has to provide test results look at their website. Send a copy of those results to Russ @Buckeye Hydro and let him provide you with what you need.

Here are the stages. Of mine.
Stage 1 sediment filter
Stage 2 and 3 carbon filters.
Stage 4 is your membrane you can add a second membrane if you have a large tank. I have 2.
Stages 5 and 6 are di resin filters.
This works very well and I don't have to worry about what's in the city water.
