That's ich. Only real cure is quarantine with Copper and if one fish have it all of them have it. There is a lot information in the internet but in my personal opinion none of them work. Other than that is well feed your fish to keep the metabolism high and well and pray for the best. But probabilities sometimes are low.
I’m reading up on brook. How confident you are you that this is what he has. Looks like my other fish are looking weird too! Any specific formulin you recommend. Ordering a small quarantine tank. Really want to get these guys better. Hate to see them like this. That clown has brook which means the entire tanknis infected. Need to QT all fish and treat with formulin. Tank needs to fallow minimum of 45 days.
I'm not an expert but my clowns got brook when my tank was new and the appearance to yours is very similar. It will kill fish quickly so you need a QT quick with formulin treatment for all fish.I’m reading up on brook. How confident you are you that this is what he has. Ich starts with only a few spots and then goes away and comes back with more spots. It doesn't show up covered in spots like that clown shows. Its a progressive disease that gets worse over multiple weeks or months. That's brook. That's ich. Only real cure is quarantine with Copper and if one fish have it all of them have it. Sorry, but it's the truth. I lost 2K dollars in fish becuase of ich.
Ordered a small 10 gallon tank. Just not having the best of luck with formulin. When I search on amazon a bunch of medications show up. Which one would you recommend?
This is indeed brooklynella and if I see correctly- the other fish has secondary infections which stem from long term brook. The most significant sign is the amount of slime on its body which is noticeable on the fish. This mucus generally starts at the facial area as well as gills and spreads across the body producing lesions as it progresses often confused with ich and can turn into secondary bacteria. Other symptoms will be lethargic behavior, refusing to eat and heavy breathing from the mucus.
Any 37% formaldehyde solution is fine. (Formalin is 37% formaldehyde gas in water, so this is "full strength")Ordered a small 10 gallon tank. Just not having the best of luck with formulin. When I search on amazon a bunch of medications show up. Which one would you recommend?
I thank you for the very useful advice. I am ordering ruby rally pro and I got the quarantine tank items coming. I hate this is happening. Typical treatment is a formalin solution But is near impossible to find. Start with a prolonged 60 minute bath of ruby rally pro then at a lower concentration in a quarantine tank. The longer the fish are exposed to the treatment, the more effective it will be at eliminating this issue.
Since a formalin solution is often not available for immediate use, temporary relief can be achieved by giving the fish a FW bath or dip in water same temperature as display tank. Even though this treatment will not cure the disease, it can help to remove some of the parasites, as well as reduce the amount of mucus in the gills to assist with respiration problems.
Treatment is best done in a QT tank using either quick cure (more effective but now harder to find) or Ruby Rally Pro. Ruby takes a little longer and initial treatment generally takes 2-3 days to really start going to work.
With the advanced stage of this- I recommend immediate quarantine of all inhabitants and leaving display without fish for 4-6 weeks.
What other fish are showing symptoms and/or spots? If people miss the early stages of ich, it can be confused in later stages with Brooklynella, so I want to try and rule that out.I thank you for the very useful advice. I have a flasher wrasse with spots on his head. Other clown does not have spots but fins are torn at the edges. I have a cardinal fish showing zero symptoms. I did a 5 minute FW bath last night. Hoping it helped until my QT tank stuff comes in.What other fish are showing symptoms and/or spots? It’s possible, clownfish are susceptible to both diseases. The wrasse has small spots only. Like how you described Ich. Is it possible to have both diseases in tank? The spots come and go for the wrasse.
