So I’m doing a new build 2 60g frag tanks 48x24x12 both are gonnna be bare bottom sps tanks lined with high end acros on 4 tiles on the bottom. I’ve used ecotech pumps forever but I’m in college and it’s expensive and probably would be because the flow is tighter then gryes. Now I’d really like to try the new 300 series and I am willing to spend the money on flow as imo it’s the most important part of coral. But how much different can they be from the 200 series and the ice cap series. You can get them so cheap compared to the 300 it almost makes me think about buying them for my new build. So what’s everyone’s opinion on them

Feel you about being in college and keeping the addiction going lol. I have never tried the gyres. I’ve tried ecotech but they seems too bulky, and I don’t like that the magnets rust. I have a Nero 5 and it does a good job on a 50 gal. Tempting to buy another with the sale. Sorry not much help but hope you find the right powerheads :)

Put a Gyre 250 on each side of each tank and alternate them. One in each tank on alternating gyre mode would be fine. They move more water than even a mp60, but I do not like how they mostly only work in one direction (they kinda suck in reverse).

If you run the water the same way all the time, you risk corals "leaning" into the flow as they grow and corallite development being different on the upstream side.
