So I've decided in the next month or 2 that I would like to add a new fish to the 45 cube, possibly the last one. I am pretty set on some sort of wrasse. My issues are that the tank size, shallow sand bed, and mandarin. Therefore I don't want one that's going to get more then 4-5 inches, needs deep sand to sleep in, or will compete with my mandarin for pods. The only other fish are a pair of clowns. I think a mckoskers or a carpenter will fit the bill, but I would like to hear some other options from you wrasse nuts:)

Possum wrasse would compete with the Mandarin I think they Are pod/worm eaters

Well, I hate to be negative here, but I don't see any wrasse options which work for you with the tank dimensions and the presence of the mandarin.

To not compete with the Mandarin, that narrows us down to pretty much Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus wrasses. However, with the tank dimensions (26.5" x 21" x 19") it's not large enough for Cirrhilabrus (even the smaller species) and I don't recommend tanks less than 3' in length for Paracheilinus as it doesn't offer them the space they really need to do 'their thing.
Sorry.

Darn. My tank is 24×24×18. I didn't think the mckoskers were pod hunters
