I am buying this within the next 12 hours.... coming off a 16-hour work shift.........

I don’t know what the “Triton” method even is..... but with that said, I have repeatedly put 3 sumps in my “cart” and have made it to payment screen, and have backed out....... So you guys decide my sump!

FYI it’s for a 106g display. I have unlimited length restrictions but at 18” wide I may need to shave a support beam down.... I have about 17 and 7/8” wide to work with, hence these choices. Thanks!

With all due respect if you have not done enough research to know what the Triton method is then your probably not ready to buy a sump.

You could help enlighten me, as I clearly admit to being "new to saltwater and reef aquariums" ..... I have all sorts things (Apex, Algae scrubber, etc) that I have no idea how to even connect...... yet here I am.

I would be happy to but I'm just not that good at explaining things. YouTube and past threads here are much better teaching tool than I could ever be .

Just because you dont know what every method is doesn't mean you cant have a sump. Any size will work. Just try and get the biggest you can fit and have room to work with equipment.

That's only kinda true. The trident method is pretty popular and gaining. They recommend a very large refugium so there's one decision that should be made before ordering.

I am absolutely not an expert so take this with a salt, but I picked a Trigger sump for my recent build. They have large refugium sections and the skimmer section is before the refugium section which means that more pods make it into your tank, from what I understand. The larger ones have an adjustable water level, plus they look amazing. I went with the Sapphire 36 but the have a smaller tank than yours.

Go with the biggest that will fit within your space requirements. I have a 40g breeder i made into a sump. I made it...skimmer-->refug-->return chamber. I now wish i had done: skimmer-->return<--refugium.

And no, you don't have to know everything abit the Triton method to have a sump. I can sum it up for you...big refugium, send them water samples to test for you, by their expensive additives to convert all the things they say got are delinquent in with their test results, lol. Tons of beautiful reefs on R2R...and they aren't Triton method tanks.

I would do a DIY sump with a glass aquarium as the base and then whatever other baffles, etc you want (I dont think they make much difference - except maybe where you want (assuming you do) a refugium. Its much cheaper - you can measure things based on ease of use (ie getting to your skimmer cup, reactors etc etc) you dont have to buy equipment to fit whatever the sump manufacturer says. JMO

I am not too handy and wouldn’t want to have it leak etc and it’s going in a stand, so once the tank is setup, it’s not coming out

It's not the tank that's DIY just the baffles. Buy the 40b, plexiglass and silicone. No chance of a leak

Number 1 rule. Go with the biggest you can shove under there. You wont ever regret that part.
