Got a gyre from a forum member that I’ll be installing next week. What are y’all opinion for placement? Also what are y’all a opinion on settings throughout the day?

Are you replacing the Vortech's with the Gyre? Looks like mostly softies so I wouldn't run it too high . Maybe max 50-60% (depending on which model you are getting) with pulse mode down to 10%. Also how will it be controlled Apex Interface or Maxspect controller.

Placement will depend on you goal for flow in your DT. You could place it at the top left which I think would give you a good gyre flow. You could also place it vertically on the back left/right (all depends on what you are trying to accomplish).

Actually it’s A ton of SPS. Adding to the mp40s to increase random flow and dead spots.

For now Maxspect controller because I don’t have the interface. Wanting to get my hands on one though.

I’d say vertical back right to see if you like that. If that doesn’t work, the only other option is either top left/right. You may be able to move both MP40 to one side and have the Gyre on another side.

Also maybe another MP40 would have been ideal instead of the Gyre, but you’ll see once you get it setup.

I run mine top right 3 inches below the water. On the opposite side I run a Vortech in short pulse 100% power longest duration mode to randomize the flow some. The vortech is placed as close as I can get it to the surface without sucking down air vortices and centered on the gyre. I run the Gyre in constant flow mode because it is noisy in any of the pulsed modes. I have it programed to run different flow rates between 20-60% over 24 hours. I run a second vortech behind the rocks in reef crest mode for further random flow.
My tank is a of the same proportions (mine 30 wide 24 tall) as yours and I had a hard time getting flow the way I wanted until I did this. The Vortechs moved a lot of water but the velocity was too high in many places yet dead in the corners.

Thought about that but wanted to try something different and wider. But that’s an easy fix if I don’t like the gyre!

I was thinking along the lines many of you are. Thought maybe vertical on back right corner.

Also thought horizontal below overflow.

I didn’t think of having both MP40 on the opposite side of the gyre 150.

If I use it on the right side I could offset that mp40 perhaps and have more random flow.

Seems as though y’all don’t think I should pulse the gyre is that right?

I attached a pic of my mp40 profile.

When I pulse my XF230 it is loud. The Vortech is silent. Yours may be different.
