I just bought a piece of live rock and was told by a good friend to take it out of the tank. Can you help let me know what's on it and is it safe?

Remove it.. you don't want that macro algae to spread all over your display.

Looks like caulerpa to me. It can get out of hand in your display and wouldn't be one I would try to keep personally.

yeah i took it out right after i put it in, i'm gonna take it to the store and see if i can get a credit. if not, its just 20 down the drain. thank you everyone. its great to know that you can panic, have a question and get solid replies right away

If you did want to keep it to add some biodiversity you could always cure it for a while in a bucket with some heat and flow. That would allow you time to remove anything that was undesireable or unexpected without any risk to your main display. I am doing that just now myself and just today eradicated an Aiptasia. No risk at all. Pulled the rock and blasted the critter with boiling water. Still have the biodiversity, but eliminating pests along the way.

Some macroalgae will have sexual events that can put a display at risk so may be good to remove that from the rock if you are unsure of the species. Good luck!
