Not sure if this is the best forum, could go into several. My sump is in my basement, it’s got maybe 200 gallons in it. I was thinking I had things pretty safe with the emergency drain, but it just occurred to me that if somehow the return (or a drain line! Now I’m spiraling ha) became disconnected it would destroy my house. Anyone have any ideas for how a disaster scenario could be averted? Maybe a water detector of some sort on the stand floor to cut power to the main pump downstairs?

Thanks!

I think you have created a wonderful nightmare scenario to haunt yourself with. A low water level switch in the sump would work to minimize the amount of water pumped from the sump to the main tank. Problem is that if you use your lower sump for water top of, the auto top off will empty before the low level switch shuts the sump pump off.

I didn't help much, did I?

If you have the money an Apex and FMM or ALD kit would help here. Run the Apex in the basement, power the return pump from that and run a remote leak detector upstairs. Code the return pump to turn off if a leak is detected. You will probably have to cut and lengthen the standard leak detector to get the run you need.
