Best advice is to throw away the API test kits. I like salifert for most things, but to be honest, I haven’t tested for ammonia in about 30 years.

I dont mind API. It's certainly fine for ammonia as many times as you're actually going to care about ammonia, though I think that test is separate from the reef kit. From the reef kit I think everything is ok except the phosphate test. Dont bother with that, it's useless, you need the kind that reads by passing light through the sample, such as a hanna checker. Assuming you bought only the API ammonia test, I would buy the rest from salifert.

I’ll pick up some salifert kits and some Dr Tim’s ammonia so I can consistently get ammonia. Hopefully that will make life easier. That previous pic was a side by side with RO water freshly mixed with salt next to my tank water after 2 shrimp over two weeks

I get .125 ammonia. I read it as lower than .25 but not 0. But API is notorious for not reading zero at zero. You could get Red Sea or Salifert or even the ammonia alert badge.
