Help me with flow in a Peninsula type tank

Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up my 140G red sea reefer peninsula 650 tank. Build thread coming soon once I have pictures of the tank on the stand, which should be in the next 7 days...

This is what the tank looks like from BRS website:

I am in the process of planning everything and am having trouble with one element: Flow.

The tank is a 63x23x25 that is viewable from 3 sides with the overflow on the back wall that is 23x25.

I plan on a high flow barebottom SPS only tank.

My overall plan/philosophy is to have no wires/powerheads showing at all if possible (just finished a DIY floating canopy to house the radions and T5's that was quite a beast lol).

The flow will be provided by the return pump and my previously owned powerheads:

- Vortech MP40 x 1
- Gyre XF150 x1
- Tunze wavebox 6208 x1 (does anyone else still use these??)

and possible a second MP40

The question is this: My original plan was to place ALL these powerheads on the "back wall" of the aquarium, by that I mean the short 23x25 wall with the overflow. Can placing all powerheads on that wall create enough flow on the far end of the tank?? What do you guys think?

I'm really trying to avoid having to stick the MP40 on the opposite short aquarium wall as it would be quite an eyesore...

I don’t know if a MP 40 would reach, a MP60 will. And I would go with gyre 250 or 280 to reach the far end instead of a 150.

I only say this because I have a 8’ tank and the MP40s would not reach the middle. My gyre 250s and MP60s do reach

The 150 is the older model. still has pretty high output, I think it's rated 5000GPH

I have 2 gyre 250’s on my reefer (60”), 108 gallon display.

At 40% they move water to the far side, 60”.

I have two of the x250s and two of the Neptune powerheads on a 180. My tank isn’t a peninsula, but when one side is off, you can barely see flow 24" from the active side.

Something seems really wrong if that’s the case.
