We were lucky enough to get some frags donated to our classroom nano tank. I am tasking the students with identifying, researching and mounting each frag. As a new reefer myself, I could use some help with my answer key. If there are any that could harm the others in the rack please let me know as well. Thank you!

3. Branching Hammer
6. Duncan
7. Leptoseris
9. Clove Polyps
10. Green Star Polyps

5 kind of looks like a green toadstool to me, but I'm no expert on softies. :)

Thanks for all the responses so far. If I get nay my identifications wrong (or right) please let me know.

2 looks like anthelia witch is very similar to Xenia

9 could be clove of pulsating Xenia. Hard to tell. Does it pulse. If so Xenia. If not cloves

2. I believe is not Xenia but Anthelia mixed with some cloves. I would keep that piece isolated as both coral types are very invasive.

My plan was to toss it to be honest

1) leather toadstool soft coral. Not white just, needs to color up.
2) I believe it’s an anthelia by the looks of the larger polyp but the rest look stressed.
3) euphyllia. Too small to tell the type but keep an eye on the polyp hanging on the skeletal structure, could be a majano & you don’t want that in your system.
4) I’m leaning on Pavona but could be psammocora, hard to see the polyps in the pic.
5) soft mushroom coral.
6) Duncan coral.
7) Leptoseris.
8) definitely a leather soft coral, I believe it’s another toadstool but too small to tell the type.
9) looks to be blue clove polyps, very invasive coral.
10) Star polyps
11) palythoa, I believe the popular name is pandora.
12) soft mushroom coral.
All good coral to start with. Would be nice to get a full shot of the tank, curious to see what your students get to play with.

Thanks for the help! Should I consider tossing any of the invasive species?

Is this the majano you mentioned?

I think you are real close @resortez ! I think that 3 is Euphyllia and 4 is common pavona.Number 11 looks like Pink and Golds to me.

It would kind of be a shame to just toss the invasive ones.I totally understand why it would happen though.Maybe try to give them away first.Or send them home with the bad kids, lol.

Thank you all. I agree its a shame to just throw anything away. I just worry about the havoc it could reap in such a small tank.

Can anyone advise on the majano. We just finished battling aptasia and are in no rush to battle another pest.
