Hello all,

Not sure where I should post this because I am not sure if this is a water chemistry issue or nutrition or what...

A little background...I have had this tank running over 3 years and up until about 1 month ago it has been doing great.

One month ago my alkalinity went up to 10.4KH but I have since corrected the dosing pumps and gotten it back to 9.0KH over the last couple of weeks.

I have also been battling dinos for a couple months now, I let my phosphate and nitrates get too low, and have now corrected the issue by dosing Neophos and Nitrate supplements/ feeding more.

Here are my parameters as of today:

kh: 8.9
Nitrate: 7.4
Phosphate: .02
Calcium: 420
Mg: 1350
Salinity: 1.026

I have lost multiple SPS colonies and now my LPS are all melting away. Can anyone help me?

Thank you for any input.

I think dinoflagellates with high alkalinity and low nutrients might be the issue.

Have some white light pics? Are the dinos gone?

Agreed re the dinos. I battled ostreopsis and it was producing toxins that were killing my corals. A UV sterilizer is your best bet to eliminate them, I also had good luck with dosing peroxide at 3mL/10gal. If all of your parameters are in check (I'd test with multiple test kits to confirm) then the dinos are likely the culprit.

Too many changes too fast? Also you might want to double check everything with someone else's equipment as maybe your tests might be inaccurate?? I do know that when lps get damaged like that they can easily become infected. Did you change your light schedule? One time my viperaspectura light glitched and it would turn my lights in at 4 am and that, made my corals bleach on one side of the tank.
