Hi all so I bought my setup used. Previous owner had all the rock stack in the middle/back in one tall tower. I wanted to spread it around and do a front island (for all the pulsing xenia that came with it). Below is what I came up with and I really like the look, had a lot of caves and enough access around the back that I could see any fish back there. First problem now is Im adding more corals and dont have many nice flat spots to place them, biggest problem is limited sand space for frags. Would love to get rid of the xenia but its my wifes favorite. Tank is viewable from the front and left side. Any ideas?

You don't 'need' flat spots for coral placement. Holes that frag plugs can fit into work great. I even took a concrete drill bit the size of the stem on a frag plug and drilled over 100 holes in my rock. After 2 months you don't know the drilled holes aren't natural. After 6 to 12 months most all the frag plugs are so grown over they disappear.

This is my 2 year old 40g DT. Do you see any holes or frag plugs?

I do not but your tank makes me very jealous lol. Did you drill the holes before you started the tank?

Actually I decided to rebuild the rockscape and drilled the rocks during the rebuild. I set up a Brute trash can with a return pump for flow and moved all my rocks and coral into it. Then one at a time I pulled them out, drilled them and put them in the tank. Many of the rocks already had corals attached but they all survived the 10 to 15 minutes they were out of the water and then a fresh water rinse in the kitchen sink to rinse the drilling dust out of the holes.

Check out the build threads in my signature. Believe it or not, I tore that tank down and replaced it with a 90g DIY tank that is 36x30x20 because I didn't have any room!
