Hi

I have bought 2 corals a zoanthid and a Ricordea Florida.
The zoanthid was open the hole day when I put it in my tank but it for some reason closed up an hour before the lights were turned off and this morning it is still closed even though the lights are on is this normal? I have only had it for a day.
the first day:

Today now:

My question for the ricordea does it look healthy? How do I know if its unhappy or not looking well I have tried googling this but have not found any answer? :)

Well, patience is a virtue :) One of the more intersting things I've seen is corals opening and closing based on past experinces or external cues so it may just take time for your zoas to adjust to your system. Your ricordia seem normal depending on the lighting.

Just FYI, if possible get teh lighting and water parameters of the ssytems your animals came out of and match those conditions for the quickest acclimation. If your environmental parameters differ significantly it may take weeks or months for them to fully aclimate.

Great advice btw this might be a dumb question I saw some really pretty Yuma's on an LFS Instagram for sale, can I mix the Florida and yumas so they all grow on the same rock beside each other? Or do I have to separate the colonies? :)

Thank you! You can mix different mushrooms together as long as they are in the same genus, but I wouldn't. (You shouldn't try mixing different genus.) The different species/varieties likely will have different growth rates. One will likely out compete the others and you'll end up with just one dominate variety. A better option would be keeping colonies of differetn types close but seperated by a couple inches. Once they acclimate and start to reprodcue they'll fill in the space between them when they're expanded.

Cool! My tank is 150x50x50 cm and I have two islands and 2 rock structures separate from each other. I'm planning to have all my soft corals on the left and LPS on the right. So I want different kinds of softies like mushrooms and leathers together on the same rock formation. I think ricordeas will look great together, I will give them plenty of space to grow but they will sometime grow towards each other.

Water chemistry and length of time stable are the key to any success. Unfortunately, many can achieve the correct levels but do not employ a system to maintain those levels, hour after hour, day after day, month after month, and wonder why corals, of any type, don’t do well.

There’s no mention of any of this so impossible to give any sound advice.

There’s also the possibility they are adjusting, but anything after 24 hours for that coral seems odd.
