I had some C. sertulariodes go sexual in the tank that I kept my C. mexicana. So, I am currently growing out some more mexicana. I do have plenty of Botrycladia sp. available. I will shoot you a PM.

Do you have fish in this system ? Is there any species better than chaeto for neutrint export in your opinion ?

Lots of fish in the tank. Melanarus wrasse, various pipefish, maroon clown, McCulloch's clown, engineer gobies, flagfin angelfish, copperband butterfly, bristle tail filefish and... I'm sure I'm missing some other fish. If I was running fish less, I would probably have to dose food for the algae.

Also, lots and lots of different types of invertebrates.

System is also skimmerless.

In regards to better nutrient export than chaeto, I think it depends on what space you have. If you have a very small space that you can grow, then chaeto is a really good one. If you have space, there are a couple o species of caulerpa that do really well and grow fast.

Caulerpa racemosa (variety peltata) is a great one. Grows fast. Does well in medium to high light. Flow doesn't seem to matter that much.

Caulerpa mexicana is another great one. Low-high lighting. Low to high lighting.

Gracilaria hayi does well too. Medium to high light. Medium flow seems to keep it happiest.

Codium is an interesting one as well. Some systems it grows out of control, others it barely grows.


When it comes down to it though, I find a variety of algae really does the system best. But, that's just my opinion. Some will do really well in one tank and horrible in another.

I was looking for a system that didn't have fish just for the risk of importing ick. Do you think I could put one of your packs in a 10g for a few months w a light and be ok adding some Seachem fuel or something w nitrates ? Any reccommendations on feeding ?

QT algae. Ok, should work fine. I would recommend something that will add nitrates and also phosphates.

Haha yes I qt algae . Can't let that stuff sneak in. I have a 4ft long by 2ft high barebottom fuge, what combo would you recommend and not have to worry about one or two taking over everything . If that's the case just line me up with the top bread winners ?

I don't keep dragons breath. Dragons breath is a halymenia species. I keep other halymenia sp.
