Where do you get your water? Rodi? Tap? LFS?

do you top off with rodi or tap?

what filtration do you use?

I use a 5 stage rodi I top off with the rodi water inside a 5 gallon bucket with a auto top of system for filtration I use the in tank cadi on one side on the other side I have a 9 watt uv steralizer made for this tank i have a hob skimmer and a media reactor with pellets in it on the cadi on top I have filter floss in the middle I have matrix and the bottom I have chemipure

What phosphates do you have?

Over the years my nitrate creeped up to about 150. I started running NoPox about 6 months ago, and now I have it down to between 2 and 5. So NoPox does work, it takes some time but the results are great IMO.

I use Api also had it text at pet store they use red sea text

So if no NoPox than what
With those phosphates it’s safe to add nopox, carbon dosing will reduce nitrates and a little of phosphates.
in saltwater we can run low nitrates and phosphates although you will want them to be always detectable in a test kit. If you have a space to add macro algaes they will also aid in lowering phosphates and nitrates.

Thank you I thought about some kind of algae scrubber or refugium I will try the NoPox first than will see what happens

I am surprised a 40g got so high. It is just small enough that a big water change would drop it. It isn't like it is overstocked.

Is the sand or something filthy?
