My yellow tang is crashing, he's laying on his side and his breathing is very fast. Not looking good we've had him for about 2 years is there anything I can do to help maybe save him? All of my other fish are fine.

Any new fish or coral additions? Any other symptoms besides breathing heavy...spots, marks, wounds?

No spots no wounds and ate yesterday the only thing new and this was 3 weeks ago

I don't see any visual indicators of a problem in the picture.

Any symptoms other than breathing quickly and laying on its side?

You could maybe try a freshwater dip...without any other symptoms it's hard to say what to treat him for :/ @Humblefish @melypr1985

My nitrates are high though just checked them

Ammonia OK? Any redness around his gills? Any recent changes to the tank?

Nitrate's are at about 30 and no redness around gills he looks perfect except for laying on his side and breathing heavy

I doubt that level of nitrates is the problem. Could perform a partial water change to reduce it.
Something else in the water or internal infection of some kind.

I am so bummed :/ he's still alive and breathing but not any better

Are any of your other fish acting this way? How are your corals looking? Any recent additions to the tank (even corals/inverts)?

All my other fish are good and this is the only new thing I have added and it was added 3 weeks ago

He's gone now :( booooo 2 years had that big guy my kiddos loved him sunny was it's name

So sorry for your loss. Some infections can take a fish really quick. Will be important to watch the other fish for any abnormal symptoms. I highly recommend reading the threads on quarantining--both fish and invertebrates, e.g., corals, snails, anything wet. Lots of "best practices" to increase our success and enjoyment of this amazing hobby.

Unfortunately, fish diseases can hitchhike in on a coral or invert. Worms lay eggs, parasite tomonts encyst upon hard surfaces and harmful bacteria can harbor in a drop of water on the coral/inside a rock.

I'm not saying 100% for sure that's what happened here but thought it was worth mentioning. This explains how to quarantine corals/inverts: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/how-to-quarantine-coral-and-inverts.228/
