I bought a few 40 breeders from petco and I seen a few people on here drill the bottoms but mine has that tempered glass sticker ....but it doesn't look like temp glass to me what's yalls thought on this subject really need some advice

You will shatter the bottom trying to drill tempered glass. If the sides are not tempered, you can drill there. Gl*******s.com has the bits and if you gollow their instructions/ videos it's a pretty easy thing to do.

I think Petco changed from Aqueon to Tetra tanks, mine are Aqueon and had no tempered glass the Tetra tanks may well be. You can't drill tempered panels they will shatter into a million pieces.

Ok thanks for the input yea cuz if seen people do it before and that's what was throwing me off ...I guess since they changed company's that's where I'm messing up ....thanks for yalls input ever eles on other forms have been ***** ...yea I got all the diamond bits from a aquatic store by the house....they wanted 20 a hole and I like to diy everything my self

You might want to contact the manufacture of your tank... it my just be the bottom and you could still drill the backs.....Maybe will work for you.

I drilled my 40B today, but am not sure who manufactured it was I bought it off another reefer. I say try to drill yours before the sale is over this month, worst case scenario is you're out $40, but you will know for certain if its tempered or not. That's what I thought going into it today and thankfully it all worked out.

Did u drill the back or the Bottom .... ussllay what I've seen is they have a sticker at the bottom saying not to drill the bottom ....yea i havnt drilled it yet but I need to man up I guess and try it on the side ...just gotta figure out how I'm going to do the overflow box

I drilled the back, bought a 700gph Glassbox overflow kit with 2 returns for black friday and finally got the courage today to attempt the drill. Came out as expected, will water test it this weekend.

He'll yea that's exactly what i was thinking of doin ...did u use a diamond bit I bought one a few days ago and Been trying to do the same courage and drill it lil I got a few pieces of glass I might practice on

The kit I bought came with the bit, template and everything I needed and what you see. Came out to $129, but looking at it, its well worth the money, I really like how it looks.
Its easier than what I thought, just nerve wrecking

I noticed that the other day, I was in my local petco, browsing around and grabbing cat litter. Thought to myself, wonder if I want to get in on the $ sale anymore.

Nice by any chance u have the site u got it from ....yea u can't beat it I caught it the frist day and picked up 3 40 gallons because that's always the frist thing that goes

Don't practice too much by drilling holes on scrap glass. Those inexpensive drill bits are really only good for a few holes. Maybe 4-5. The bit dulls each time you use it.

I got a couple tetra 40breeders myself yesterday during the sale and I noticed the sticker on the bottom says "tempered glass, do not drill". Do yours say the same thing? I am worried that it is referencing the whole tank, not just the bottom.

Let me know how drilling goes because I want to add the same glass hole set up to these tanks.

Tanks are typically tempered only on the bottom. I have a 40B that I got from Petco with that orange sticker on it. I am using it for a sump. So far, I have drilled 7 holes (4 for micro bulkheads) in it on the sides. All good. :) The tempering process on the glass used in those inexpensive tanks can sometimes cause some minor optical distortion in the glass. That's one reason that they don't use tempered glass on the sides.

Yea fins right its just the bottoms ...my buddy bought 4 and cracked 3 of them but he said he did it wrong I guess ...yea im thinking of 2 one inch drains and 4 returns 2 on my sump and 2 on a closed loop system but Idk if the glass will hold

Just got mine the day after Christmas was wondering the same thing. Just as everyone else said. Only the bottom is tempered. I will be drilling mine this weekend...... Looks good Manaz101
