I got this skimmer from a buddy awhile back he does not no anything about it or where it came from. I thought it looked about the right size for the new 125 im setting up. It looks old so hopefully some of you long time reefers out there will recognize it and tell me if its a good old skimmer or a waste of time. Im not much into the latest and greatest gadgets. I just wanna know if this thing with the right pump will handle a fully stocked 125 in the future. If so what size pump and what brand do you suggest, also what other parts do i need along with a pump to make this thing work. And please share any other comments or experience with one of these or one like it.

Thanks,
James Pate

also in front of this 90 there is a baffle and on the other side of the baffle that 2" acrylic stack butts the bottom of the skimmer box and has 2 1" holes drilled into it facing the 90.

Never had one but they're not cheap. Looks like u might be missing a piece, plus u need bio balls for inside that clear tube.

The water is going to pump into the cap that is missing. At least im pretty sure.

yea thanks i just researched it a little more. Problem is that tube is 2 3/4" so how in the world am i going to find a pvc or plumbing fitting to fit that? also i have to put a 1/2" air inlet in there with the supply line.

Reach out to etts and see if they have parts. Or Google and see if u can a retailer that stocks etts parts.

yeah, downdraft idea to my understanding is to increase contact time for micro bubbles to make contact with organic waste. The bioballs are optional if you're a bioball type of person.

I would just rig a cap using a piece of acrylic, bulkhead and 3/4-1 inch barb.. good luck

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. If i cant find a replacement. I emailed them at superskimmer.com waiting for a response.

No you need the bio balls, that is part of the bubble generation. There are other similar looking skimmers that don't use bio balls, but that is a different method of foam fractionation. A Beckett skimmer looks similar in build but doesn't use bio balls. In fact you may even be able to find a Beckett injector for your skimmer.

Thanks. I will research beckett and see if i can cross reff. a part.

After some further thought If i were to jerry rig a top by adding a piece of acrylic and drilling a hole for a bulk head and air inlet the only problem would be 1 i would have to add bio balls before installing the acrylic and 2 i would never be able to change them. Not really ideal.
