Agree that ich is more prevalent than flukes which are susceptible to. Flukes offer typical signs which you did not note seeing any such as becoming lethargic, swimming near the water surface, developed clamped fins, hiding in the corner of the tank or behind rocks, lose their appetite, shake their head, flash, or scratch. They may also express what looks like yawning.

He looks thin and krill is a poor choice in food. Healthy lions will be resistant to protazoan diseases and if attacked will shed and slough it off. Most will not follow my advice although it can be successful, and those that don't, then the lion always die. He would need to be a tank with optimum water quality, nitrates lower than 30ppm, cleaner even better, and obviously other parameters 0. Feed him live food, preferably mollies and many times a lion will pull through from a protazoan attack. Flukes would be easily treated with prazi pro, but until you give us more info we can only guess.

Is shrimp clams squid ok? Or molies are just the best.

So it's been a year since your initial post, so I take it he recovered and is doing well. While there is good argument for including live food, volitans usually will accept a variety of dead food that will be healthy choices and provide a long captive life. I will include a thread I wrote on dead foods as well as a new thread I wrote today on live foods.
