About 7-10 days ago I picked up a 7inch clown tang. First day in the tank he was swimming around with the other fish, no aggression from him or the others and he started grazing on the rock consistently. Unfortunately I don't have much for him the eat on the rocks as I run a very clean system. He wouldn't eat any nori on the food clip and hasn't touched any of my prepared foods such as mysis, reef and fish frenzy. Today I notice he is starting to get a little stressed out without any consistent food. He may of came down with a sickness. He seems to swimming around the tank more looking for food but still won't eat anything I toss in their. I know he was recently wild caught and came straight to my door. Any ideas on how to get him to eat? Appreciate all the help!

my LFS has actual seaweed from the ocean that they gave to cust for fish that can be challenging to eat since they are wild caught. Check if your LFS has them. These are not prepared food

PE mysis, It's best to have them in a QT and eating before being thrown in a DT wish fish competing for food. I've heard these guys are bad shippers and tend not to eat after a stressful shipment. But I'd try PE mysis and or nori with some garlic.

If you want to try a fresh natural way, there is some orangish sushi eggs used for some rolls, that you can purchase at a market, (if there is one near you). Haven't tried it but I've heard fish love it. It's called Masago if I'm not mistaken.

Hope you get that beauty eating!

I have some sea fan and sea leaf coming into the LFS tomorrow. I went out and purchase additional garlic for nori. Still nothing. Tried PE mysis and ROE eggs. Still nothing. He is currently fat from being wild caught, but I can tell from his skin color he is starting to get very hungry. For competing for food, he swims around with all the others during feeding time but doesn't bat an eye at anything in there. I have a 225g and wouldn't say over stocked as he is the largest or equal to the largest fish which is a blonde naso and they don't both each other a bit.

Not to be that guy but
Always qt anything you buy to make sure it's eating and adjusting to tank life....

See if someone near you has any gracielra algea for you to feed him that stuff saved a picky kole tang for me

Did you try attaching some nori to a rock and tucking it into your rock work? Try it in a few spots to cut down on competition. It may spur him on to eat if it seems more natural.

Update: I tried many different foods over the past few days. I even put in some live algae of many different sorts. Came back the next morning and it was all gone. Did catch him nipping at a few pieces so that is good. I took a local friends advice and made a nori roll. Took a 1 inch PVC approximate 3-4 inches long, drilled 1/4 inch holes in it, tied to fish line and wrapped with nori/rubber bands. I made sure the food stays in the tank at least 24hours and over night. Few days and the clown tang is now taking down small pieces of nori. I feel this is good improvement, but still not eating enough to make me happy.

Current107, I am having the same issues with my newly purchased clown tang. Is he still eating?

I have three tangs that all refuse to eat nori from a clip on the side of the tank. When I attach it to a small rock and put it on the bottom of the tank they all eat it.
