Hello all,
I just got 4 new coral. I have had my main tank for 1 year. I didn't realize at the time but I saw that there was aptasia in the seller's tank so I put my new coral in QT (never in the main tank). My fungia which is just an hour old or so is starting to turn white. Can someone help me? I dipped the coral and this tank has been cycled. My sg is 1.024, the bag it came in was 1.025. I will admit I raised the tank salinity from 1.022 by adding just some main tank salt water/a small dash of saliter fresh water. Any advice? Thanks!

Did you match the alkalinity? Usually the most important things to consider when moving coral from one tank to another is temp, alk, and salinity. As long as all those match, you don't need to acclimate.

What is a good way to adjust alk quickly like that? Will most lfs tell you what their alk is at?

I think in general you don't want to adjust more than 1dkh/day. I would check with the LFS and see what they keep theirs at and adjust accordingly. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else could be off that would cause it to turn white that quickly. I've never had a fungia so hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

Hello! Unfortunately I am not sure what Alk their tank was at and I threw the water out so I'll sadly never know. I bought it from a store that had it on sale and trying to get out of the business lol. Most of it appears to be about the same, no worse, but there are definite white lines. I am hoping these areas will recover? I didn't want to chance any aiptasia in my main tank.
