Okay, I think I'm getting better with taking pics but I keep getting some weird purple'ish or blue'ish color on the white of the Picasso clownfish. I think it's when the flash hits the white on the Picasso is what's causing it. how do I fix this? I haven't tried manually setting the white balance on the Canon T2i yet so that might be one option. or you think buying a better program for post processing is better. I only use IrfanView to crop, add borders, and a little post processing on the pics when needed, esp when it comes out too washed out.

anyway, here's a sample of what I'm talking about. don't get me wrong, I think they're decent but if I can improve more, I would like to. :)

Thanks in advance.

here, it's almost like a SnowFlake clownfish with the blue hue.

here's what I think turned out really well, esp with the white color being neutral.

Amazing Clowns!! Honestly, I do not see the purple. The shaded areas that barely show on a small portion of the white looks like shadow to me. The last photo looks much brighter than the others which would over ride the shadow.
A photo with or without a flash should show a little bit of a blue color on anything white due to your reef lighting. With a better program and even something on the cheap side such as Photoshop Elements you would be able to adjust your white balance perfectly.

Looks like it may be clipping due to overexposure...

Take the photos in RAW mode. Get an editor where you can adjust the image settings better. Adobe Camera Raw can help remove the overexposure and correct the white balance while it is in RAW then save as a JPEG to share after processing. This comes with Photoshop Elements.

FYI I am not a pro by any means so take my advice with a grain of salt... There are other, better, photographers on this site.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll need all the help I can get. these guys are so fast that's why I use flash. I tried using RAW format but my comp didn't read the files so I couldn't even open them on the comp. wasted a few good shots.

Hey Marvin, I also have a canon T2i. Would you mind sharing a couple of techniques/setting via PM. I was having the same problem earlier today when I was photographing my Snowflakes. I don't think the flash is causing the problem simply because I was shooting without flash yet experienced the same problem. I'm guessing it was the aquarium lights reflecting at a certain angle of the scales of the clown fish, which then becomes magnified due to the white pigmentation. Wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat
