Help pairing maroon clowns

I've had a lighting/nugget maroon clown (petco splurge) in a biocube 32 for almost a year now. I've done a lot of research about pairing, and how its hard to do because maroons are much more aggressive, didn't think it would be this difficult. And she has already killed 2 other possible mates in the past.

Is "he" too small? Should I take him back to petco? Or just leave him in the breeder container for a while until he is a little bigger? He is about 1/2 her size. Was thinking getting a smaller maroon would make things easier to pair.
They started to pair right off the back, but then she went full psycho and started chasing him like no tomorrow hence why the breeding container
